Is My Crush Interested In Me?

Love and Relationships

You've reread the text four times. "haha that's so funny!!" with two exclamation points. Is that friendly? Is that flirty? Does two exclamation points mean more than one? If you've ever handed your phone to a friend and said "okay, read this and tell me what you think," you already know how confusing a crush can be. Every tiny thing feels like a clue, and none of them come with an answer key.

The Usual Signs, and Their Big Weakness

The standard list goes something like this. They make eye contact and hold it. They laugh at your jokes, even the mediocre ones. They remember small details, like the name of your cat or the exam you were stressed about last Tuesday. They find excuses to be near you, start conversations first and suggest plans with a specific day attached. Most of this holds up pretty well, especially the parts about attention and memory. People pay attention to what they care about.

The tricky part is that some people do all of this with everyone. The naturally warm friend who calls the whole office "babe" and remembers every coworker's birthday isn't necessarily into you, even if it feels personal. That's why one sign on its own doesn't mean much. You're looking for a pattern, and specifically for things they do with you that they don't do with anyone else.

Shy Interest Looks Completely Different

Then there's the opposite problem. Some people get quieter around a crush, not louder. They avoid eye contact because holding it feels like too much. They reply to texts with long, thoughtful messages but rarely send the first one, because they're scared of being annoying. They hover near you at parties without saying a lot. If you only look for confident flirting, you'll miss these people entirely.

A good tell for shy interest is how someone acts when it's just the two of you compared with a group. Lots of nervous admirers open up one on one and go stiff when others are watching. Their friends might give it away too, with a knowing look or a casual "they talk about you, you know."

Mixed Signals and Friendly Signals

Mixed signals are the most frustrating category of all. Super chatty for a week, then silence. Cuddly at a party, then oddly formal at lunch on Monday. Sometimes this means someone is interested but unsure, maybe fresh out of a relationship or nervous about wrecking a friendship. Sometimes it means they enjoy the attention more than the person giving it. You can't really tell from the outside, which is why at some point a direct, low-pressure question beats months of guessing.

And sometimes the answer is that they like you as a friend. That stings, no question. It's also not nothing. A good friendship with someone you admire is worth a lot, and plenty of people look back later and feel glad it stayed that way.

The quiz covers texting habits, group settings, plans, nicknames and what your mutual friends have been saying. Answer based on what your crush does, not on what you'd love them to do, because wishful answers only get you a wishful result. You'll land somewhere between Totally Into You and Happily Platonic, with the Shy Admirer, the Slow Burner, the Friendly Flirt and the Mixed Signal Sender as the interesting stops in the middle. Whatever comes up, it's a nudge to look at the situation a little more clearly, and maybe to finally send that text.
